HOW TO SPLICE YOUR WIRE FOR A SPORTDOG® IN-GROUND FENCE™
How To Splice An In-Ground Fence Wire
Wire splices are necessary any time two boundary wires are being connected. Only use the method below to splice the wire. Any other techniques will cause the system to malfunction. The wire used must be rated for outdoor, in-ground use. The connections must be made using a wire connector cap and a silicone-filled capsule.
Strip 3/8 inch of insulation from each end of the wires to be spliced.
Twist the exposed wires together.
Twist a wire cap over the wires. Make sure there isn’t any exposed copper sticking out of the cap.
Do NOT solder, crimp or heat shrink the wires. The signal is an RF signal and not an electrical current. These methods of combining the wires will create issues with the signal.
We do not recommend using silicone-filled wire caps in place of the silicon-filled splice capsules; while they work as a temporary fix, they do not contain enough silicone to work effectively long-term.
Insert the wires into the splice capsule. Submerge the wire cap to the bottom of the capsule and close the lid.
Tie a loose knot around the wires to secure the wires and prevent damage to the splice when buried in the ground.
