HOW TO FIND A WIRE BREAK IN THE BOUNDARY WIRE OF A SPORTDOG® IN-GROUND FENCE™ USING THE DIVIDE METHOD
This method of locating a full or partial wire break is a process of elimination and requires additional boundary wire from the roll. You will be working directly with the wire in the yard and the wall transmitter.
If your system is set up using the PetSafe® Brand Surge Protector for Pet Fences, you will need to disconnect it and bypass it to perform the divide method.
Power the wall transmitter off or unplug it from the wall.
Plug both ends of the twisted wire into one boundary terminal.
Identify and cut the center point of your wire or as close to it as possible.
If there is a splice in the wire at this location, that would be your ideal starting point.
Temporarily splice the end of the wire from the spool to one of the ends of the boundary wire by stripping ⅜ inch of insulation from the wire and twisting the ends together using a wire connector.
Run your temporary wire back to the wall transmitter. Cut the wire from the roll and strip ⅜ inch of insulation from the end of the wire being plugged into the wall transmitter.
Plug the new length of wire into the second boundary terminal and power the wall transmitter back on.
FULL BREAKS
If you have a loop light with the new length of wire plugged in, this half of your wire is good. The break is in the other half of the wire. If there is still no loop light, the break is in this half of the wire.
PARTIAL BREAKS
Test the collar at the boundary. If the collar activates as it should, this half of the wire is good. The break is in the other half of the wire. If the collar still does not activate as it should, the break is in this half of the wire.
Repair the wire by removing the damaged section of wire and splicing in new wire. Visit HOW TO SPLICE YOUR WIRE to ensure the proper technique is used.
