HOW TO FIND MY DOG’S RECOGNITION LEVEL ON THE SPORTDOG® NOBARK SBC-10 COLLAR

BEFORE YOU BEGIN

  • This article will help you find your dog’s recognition level while in User-Selected Mode.
  • When the bark collar is first introduced, close supervision is important to instill proper training and avoid the bark-correction cycle.

WHAT IS THE BARK-CORRECTION CYCLE?

  • This is when a dog is startled at the initial static stimulation and barks at it, the collar corrects them again, and this cycle continues.
  • If this happens, reassure your dog with calm, soothing tones. As your dog relaxes, he will understand that if he becomes quiet, he will not receive more static stimulation. The small minority of dogs that have this reaction will only have it the first time they wear the bark control collar.

FINDING YOUR DOGS RECOGNITION LEVEL

Starting on level 1 in User-Selected Mode, watch for signs of recognition after they bark, such as ears perking up or looking around in curiosity. If you need help changing modes or levels, visit HOW TO CHANGE MODES ON MY SPORTDOG® NOBARK SBC-10.

  • Do not make your dog bark for this step. Wait for them to bark on their own.

Increase the intensity by 1 if you see no sign of recognition.

Continue to observe your dog closely while you increase the intensity until you see a sign of recognition.

  • If you have reached level 10 with no signs of recognition, check the fit and start over.

Leave the intensity at the first level you notice your dog recognizes the stimulation.

At no point should your dog vocalize or panic. If they do, check the fit and start from the lowest level again.
